From “I quit” to “What’s next?” – The Power of Not Giving Up

Meet Darin Tuttle. Back in September of 24’ he tried to quit (see text exchange).

Darin is a financial advisor so you get the analogy about him stopping to invest in a retirement account

Let’s start with the big picture:

    1.    What does being healthy mean to you, and why is it important?

I think being healthy is all about being clean and positive in all aspects of life whether it’s, physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

It’s important since everything is connected it has ways of blessing your life that you didn’t think possible.

    2.    What are your current health and fitness goals?

Looking forward to the Tough Mudder coming up in Big Bear in September with the boys, I also want to get down to a six minute mile, and improve my strict pull-up reps.

    3.    What would you say has been your greatest achievement so far?

There was a lot of movements in CrossFit when I first started that I was afraid to try like rope climbs and hand stand pushups. I think now I look forward to the harder movements so I can get better and improve.

From 250 to 215 in 6 months and stronger!

Challenges and Breakthroughs:

    4.    What have been your biggest obstacles in the past?

I think my biggest battles have been being consistent in showing up to the gym and finding the right food in the kitchen.

    5.    How did you overcome these obstacles?

I’ve totally changed my routine to prioritize my gym time. It’s the best part of my day!

    6.    What key factors have contributed to your success?

I think following your advice on health and nutrition. Getting the supplements that my body needs combined with intermittent fasting was a game changer for me.

The Journey:

    7.    What do you love most about exercising?

The feeling of self-respect in doing hard things.

    8.    What do you find most challenging about exercising?

For me the biggest battle is mental- feeling like I want to give up or “deserve” something without putting in the work.

    9.    Does feeling and looking your best contribute to your overall happiness? If so, how?

100%. It’s much easier to be around others when I am feeling and looking my best and have self respect.

During his journey this was about 3 months into his decision to stick with it.

Words of Wisdom:

    10.    What advice would you give to someone with similar goals who is struggling—especially if they have little to no support from family or friends?

I would say reach out to others in the gym. it’s the community- Wayne, Nick, Sam, Mike, Nate, Jordyn, Cindy, Steve. Have all been there since day 1 and are ready and willing to help.

A Few Fun Questions:
    11.    Favorite healthy food? Celery
    12.    Favorite cheat meal? Steak and Eggs
    13.    Favorite exercise? Hang cleans

Lightning Round: Give a one-word answer for each!
    14.    CrownTown: _______ BEST
    15.    Nutrition: _______ DESIRE
    16.    Happiness: _______ INSIDE
    17.    Impossible: _______ START
    18.    Future: _______ BRIGHT

I’d like to add a comment in closing. Darin had been a member for over a year prior to him deciding to be committed.

As you can see, I like analogies. Before he was the chicken, not the pig. The chicken is involved by laying eggs. He’d show up irregularly, and not take his nutrition serious.

He was still a member of the gym, but it wasn’t until he sacrificed himself like the pig does for bacon that he committed. He showed up consistently, and he took serious what he did outside of the gym.

We all have the same time and opportunity, but are just simply involved, or are we committed?

We have the system, and it’s proven, but it only works if you do, too!

Congrats Darin and thank you for trusting our process. We look forward to you inspiring others to get committed!

More than a few year ago I was at Darin’s wedding. I knew his wife’s family well. I was a neighbor. We exchanged Christmas cards until 2023, but none in 2024. I just received a card from Jillian with no return address. Would he give me her address? I would appreciate it. Jillian’s grandfather helped me move into my house many years ago(40). Thanks and have a great holiday.
